SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity announced that the Heritage Corridor Convention and Visitors Bureau will be awarded over $1.6 million dollars to promote tourism along US Route 66. Six other organizations also received a portion of the $3.7 million to be distributed by The Route 66 Grant Program for development of preservation, promotion, and tourism leading up to the 100th Anniversary of Route 66 in 2026. The funding will also support other projects across the state, including iconic Route 66 signage, monuments, and investments in museums, exhibits, and rest stops.
