SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Employment Security reported that statewide the job market has improved slightly during September, but still trails the national average. The United States unemployment rate was at 7.7%, however, the Illinois rate was at 9.8% for the month, down 1.3% from August. This is still well below the pandemic induced high of 16.8% in April.
