Q Teacher Salute

Nominate your teacher in The Q Teacher Salute! Don't miss Q 97.7 and 103.3's Teacher Salute Program for the 2013-2014 school year, sponsored by Q, Exposure Salon & Day Spa in LaSalle and HyVee in Peru.

Do you have a teacher that has touched your life or the life of your child? Why not nominate them below for the Q Teacher Salute!

The winning teacher will receive a $250 salon and day spa gift certicicate from Exposure Salon & Day Spa and a certificate honoring him or her as the Q Teacher Salute winner for that month.

The winning teacher's classroom will receive a class pizza party from HyVee in Peru, delivered by Q on-air staff.

On the third Friday of every month, Q will pick one teacher to be saluted on Q! We'll continue to salute one teacher per month through May 2014.

October - Congratulations to Mrs. Julie Landers, kindergarten teacher at Rutland Grade School in Ottawa and Q's first Q Teacher Salute winner. Mrs. Landers received a $250 gift certificate from Exposure Salong & Day Spa in LaSalle and her class received a pizza party from HyVee is Peru.

Mrs. Landers was nominted by student Enrika's mother, who had this to say about Mrs. Landers: "I, the parent of Enrika Harris, am nominating Ms. Landers for being such an amazing motivator for my daughter. My daughter is very shy and Ms. Landers has opened up her personality in the classroom, and Enrika is progressing and shining extremely better than we imagined. Enrika has always loved reading and learning, but Ms. Landers has ignitied a spark in her that will shine forever. Enrika comes home telling us everything about what happened in school, and how she can't wait to get back to Ms. Landers class. Ms. Landers sae my daughter needing help with her letters and has helped her progress faster than I imagined. I am so happy that my daughter has had such an amazing kindergarden teacher to help excite her to LOVE school! A kindergarten teacher sets the path for the child's education and Ms. Landers made my daughter's path a YELLOW BRICK ROAD that sines all way to a successful future!

November - Congratulations to Mr. Bart Hipes, fifth grade teacher at St. Michaels The Archangel School in Streator and Q Teacher Salute winner for November. Mr. Hipes received a $250 gift certificate from Exposure Salong & Day Spa in LaSalle and his class received a pizza party from HyVee is Peru.

Mr. Hipes was nominated by student Myah's mother, who had this to say about Mr. Hipes, "Mr. Hipes is witty, patient and understanding with his students. He makes learning fun and is always smiling! Mr. Hipes was the main reason my daughter couldn't wait to return to St. Michael's and had made her school year a very good one. You can see his love in teaching by the smile on my daughter's face when she found out he would be 5th grade homeroom teacher! Our family just can't say enought nice things about him... everybody loves Mr. Hipes!

December - Congratulations to Mrs. Carleen Bergandi, English and reading teacher at Dimmick Grade School and Q Teacher Salute winner for December. Mrs. Bergandi received a $250 gift certificate from Exposure Salong & Day Spa in LaSalle and her class received a pizza party from HyVee is Peru.

Mrs. Bergandi was nominated by student Mackenzie, who had this to say about Mrs. Bergandi, "Mrs. Bergandi is nominated because she dedicates her time to the classroom. Mrs. Bergandi is a great asset for all the children in the school, volunteering her time and effort in and out of the classroom for students."


January - Congratulations to Miss Abby McConville, first and second grade teacher at Cherry Grade School and Q Teacher Salute winner for January. Miss McConville received a $250 gift certificate from Exposure Salong & Day Spa in LaSalle and her class received a pizza party from HyVee is Peru.

Miss McConville was nominated by student Aiden, who had this to say about Miss McConville, "She is a great teacher and has helped me to read better. She makes me laugh and is a lot of fun. She is my favorite teacher."


February - Congratulations to Mrs. Dawm Wood, vocational child care teacher at Ottawa Township High School and Q Teacher Salute winner for February. Mrs. Wood received a $250 gift certificate from Exposure Salong & Day Spa in LaSalle and her class received a pizza party from HyVee is Peru.

Mrs. Wood was nominated by former student Shawn, who had this to say about Mrs. Wood, "The reason I am nominating Mrs. Dawn Wood is because of her undying dedication and energy she puts forth to her high school and preschool studetnts. She was my teacher when I was in high school, and she taught me things that I use in my own classroom roday. She not only teacher you how to be a teacher, but how to be a caring, loving individual who sees the good in everyone. She now is my son's teacher (she taught my son and daughter last year) in preschool. My son loved going to school because Mrs. Wood makes it fun! She guides the high school students on how to make fun engaging lesson plans and my son comes home with amazin projects. They teach the students about letters and numbers, and my son is practicing rad hard at writing his name. They are always busy little bees when you walk by the classroom or are there to pick up your child. And Mrs. Wood is right along with the children playing, creating, learning and teaching. She is an amazing teacher that not only preschool students can learn from but high school and beyond! She has forever touched my life and my children's lives!
