LaSalle County Genealogy Guild * Ottawa

The LaSalle County Genealogy Guild Ottawa will meet at the Guild Library at 115 Glover Street at 1pm.  Our speaker for the month of March is Rachel Mellen.  The subject of her talk will be The Luck of the Irish for Genealogy.  Rachel was born and educated in England.  She received her bachelor’s degree in history and education from the University of London in 1974.  She was awarded an M.A. in Humanities from the California State University Dominguez Hills in 2008.  Rachel has over thirty years of experience in English genealogical research and has written two books on the subject, “The Practical Guide for the Genealogist in England” (1986) and “The Handy Book to English Genealogy” (1987 and 1990).  Both history research, updated for the 21st century.  An experienced lecturer, Rachel has given presentations on English genealogical societies and libraries, including the Chicago Branch of the National Archives.  She will speak about the Irish aide of her ancestry, and offer hints on how to proceed with researching your Irish ancestry.
