Applications being accepted
Applications for the 2012 Reverend L.L. Henkel Scholarship award, administered by Heartland Bank and Trust Company, are now available to any LaSalle resident who is a 2013 graduating senior or has graduated from a local state accredited high school. Applications are available at the Regional Superintendent of Schools Office of LaSalle County website: http://roe35.k12.il.us. Completed application packets must be received by April 30, at the superintendent's office. Call 872-6147 for more information.


MENDOTA - Bloodmobiles
The Red Cross will host a series of bloodmobiles at Mendota Moose Lodge on the following dates:  April 9, June 4, July 30, Sept. 24 and Nov. 19.


MENDOTA - Diabetes self management series
Mendota Community Hospital's free diabetes self management series 'Using diabetes conversation maps" will be held Tuesday evenings, April 9, 16 and 23 from 6 until 8 p.m. in the hospital's conference room C. Pre-registration is required by calling 539-1411 weekdays.


MENDOTA - Fish fry
The Mendota Lions Club will host a fish fry Thursday, April 21, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mendota Lion’s Club, located at the Mendota Fairgrounds on 1st Ave. All you can eat, boiled or fried fish, served with baked potato, cole slaw, bread and “World Famous Lion’s Club Corn Dogs” with lemonade or coffee to drink.  Carry-out orders can be phoned in at 815-303-0022.

LASALLE - Annual spaghetti dinner

Lighted Way/Uptown Grill will be having its annual spaghetti dinner at Uptown Grill in LaSalle from 4:30 until 8 p.m. on Monday, April 8. Spaghetti with meat sauce, tossed salad, Italian bread, cake and coffee will be served. Tickets may be obtained from LIghted ay be calling 224-1345 or purchased at the door that night. Cost is $8 for the dinner, and carry-outs are available. All proceeds will go to the Lighted Way Foundation, which is a school for students with developmental disabilities.


DALZELL - Family Bingo Night
The Illinois Valley Junior Womens' Club will host a Family Bingo Night on Friday, April 12, at the Dalzell Fire Department. Doors open at 5:30 and bingo starts at 7. Cards are one for $1 and three for $5. There will be good, prizes and raffles.


SPRING VALLEY - Fun run/walk
St. Margaret's 1st Annual 10K and 1-mile fun run/walk - Habit for Health Saturday, April 13. Race-day registration is from 7 unil 8:30 a.m. Race begins at 9 a.m. at 415 E. 2nd Street, Spring Valley. The race will benefit ongoing renovations and improvements to St. Margaret's Health facitilies. The cost is $30 for the 10k, $25 for the fun run/walk and $80 for a family four-pack fun run/walk. Registration forms are available at St. Margaret's Switchboard and Gift Shop, as well as at runrace.net. Online registration is also available at runrace.net Call 220-1005 for more information.


LASALLE - Spring health fair
LaSalle-Peru High School will host a spring health fair from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Friday, April 19, L-P High School East Gym. Lunch will be provided. The fair is sponsored by the Key Club and TOPS. Call 223-1721, ext. 315.


LAMOILLE - Pre-school screening
The LaMoille/Cherry/Ohio school districts will hold their annual preschool screnning on April 22 and 23 for children who are 3 years old by the day of the screening and who are not yet in kindergarten. The screenings will be held at Allen Junior High Gymnasium in LaMoille. Call 638-2233 to schedule an appointment for your child to be screened.


LASALLE - 5K run/walk spring shuffle
The first annual Trinity Catholic Academy of LaSalle will host its first annual 5K run/walk spring shuffle starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 27. Registation starts at 7 a.m. The course runs through LaSalle, starting at TCA school. Awards will be presented after the race, and music and refreshments will be provided. Pre-register by April 14 to guarantee a t-shirt. Cost is $20 before April 14 and $25 on race day. For more information, or for a registation form, Call 223-8523.


MENDOTA - Ministry fundraiser
Orders are now being taken for the Holy Cross and St/ Peter and Paul parishes' Shine Youth Ministry Meat Sale fundraiser. Orders are due April 28 for a variety of frozen and individually packaged meat cuts may be placed by calling 538-6151. Orders must be picked up at Sullivan's from 9 until 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 11. Every year, Shine Youth Ministry of Holy Cross and and Sts. Peter and Paul parishes sends a team of high school students to help underpriviledged persons. The funds raised from this meat sale will assist in the costs in providing this service.


STREATOR - Vendor fair
A vendor show to benefit the LaSalle County Relay for Life will be held from 6 until 10 p.m. on Friday, May 3, at the Streator VFW. A variety of vendors will be featured. Cash and carry or place an order. Each vendor will have a raffle item. The show is sponsored by DAS Mycogen Seeds Relay for Life team.
 

EARLVILLE - Vendors wanted
